Pakistan skipper could miss Test

Shoaib Malik faces a fitness test on Thursday to determine whether he can lead Pakistan in the second Test against India in Calcutta on Friday.

Malik twisted his ankle playing soccer after Monday's opening defeat in Delhi.

The tourists were upbeat after a scan that day but he was unable to practice on Wednesday with his ankle strapped.

There is better news of Shoaib Akhtar, who went to hospital with fever and exhaustion, and fellow seamer Umar Gul has recovered from a back problem.

Speedster Shoaib is expected to take part in training on Thursday but batsman Misbah-ul Haq is recovering from a fever and throat infection.

Pakistan will be desperate to have both men fit as they bid to stop India winning their first home series against their neighbours since 1979-80.

Vice-captain Younus Khan is likely to step in as skipper if Malik is ruled out.
