White agent reveals England talks

South Africa's World Cup winning coach Jake White has held talks with England, according to his agent.

The England coaching set-up and the position of current coach Brian Ashton are under review by English rugby chief Rob Andrew.

"England have been in touch. We've expressed an interest and so have they. We've talked to Rob Andrew," Craig Livingstone told The Sunday Times.

White led the Springboks to World Cup glory over England last month.

England's unexpected run to the final was seen as a great success, but coach Ashton has since been criticised by some of his own players, with Lawrence Dallaglio saying the post "demands management skills that Brian does not have".

Livingstone added: "England are busy with the (post-World Cup) review process and then they will make a decision."

White announced on Wednesday that he would leave the Springboks in December and accused South Africa of forcing him out of the job after they revealed he was not on a shortlist of four names to fill his own position.

He has since confirmed that he would not be interested in either the vacant Australia or Wales jobs.

White is due to lead South Africa on their tour of Britain later this month before stepping down.

The Springboks will play Wales on 24 November, before taking on the Barbarians at Twickenham a week later - White's final game in charge.

Soon after arriving back in South Africa with the Webb Ellis trophy, White said: "England is probably one job most international coaches wouldn't mind taking.

"It's a power that can become a huge force. They have a great rugby culture."
