First Test, Kandy (day four): Sri Lanka 188 & 167-2 (52 overs) v England 281
Sri Lanka are set to begin the fourth day of the first Test 74 runs ahead of England with eight second-innings wickets remaining in Kandy. Day three was dominated by Muttiah Muralitharan passing Shane Warne's Test record of 708 wickets, and he raised the bar to 710 by taking 6-55. A late-order rally by England had given them a first-innings lead of 93. But Sanath Jayasuriya hit 78 in his last Test innings as the home side ended the day on 167-2. Play set to begin 0430 GMT 0420: Morning all - it's nearly time for Day Four of the first Test. The match situation is this: Sri Lanka are 167-2 in their second innings. Effectively, they're 74-2 in a one-innings match, because England lef by 93 on first innings. Kumar Sangakkara and skipper Mahela Jayawardene are at the crease. Kevin Pietersen won't field in this innings because of a fractured bone in his finger - although he will bat in his usual position in England's second innings because the injury is an "external" one (rather than an "internal" one such as a muscle pull).
And it was all go yesterday - Muttiah Muralitharan set a new Test wicket-taking record, and Sanath Jayasuriya retired from Tests.
