Renault aided by lack of evidence

Renault escaped penalties in the latest Formula One spy row because of a lack of evidence that the constructors and drivers' title races were affected.

But the team have been warned by the FIA, motorsport's governing body, that they could yet be punished if fresh evidence to the contrary emerges.

Renault were found guilty of a breach of having technical data from F1 rivals McLaren in their possession.

Earlier this year, McLaren were fined 50m for possessing Ferrari data.

They were also docked of all their points in the constructors' championship.
