2047: "Is it me or does Kaka look overawed by the occasion..?"

2045: Glen Johnson overlaps down the right but his cross is headed high and wide by Peter Crouch at the near post. A good spell from Portsmouth.
2045: "Sitting in the Milton End I can't quite see who's pocket Kaka is in."
Pete at Fratton Park via text on 81111
2044: Some terrible Portsmouth defending leaves Pippo Inzaghi with a sniff of goal but Nadir Belhadj is there in a flash to take the ball off his toes.
2041: The home fans ramp up the noise as half-time approaches. Brilliant stuff.
2040: Another half-chance for Portsmouth as Glen Johnson's cross from the right evades everyone - except Peter Crouch at the far post. He attempts to head it back for Kanu when he might have gone for goal.
2038: Mathieu Flamini clatters Glen Johnson - but escapes a yellow card. That's the former Arsenal midfielder's second poor tackle of the game. Hmmm.
2038: "Re 2013: royaldrew's right! Fond memories of Glen Little for Reading at Stamford Bridge on a Boxing Day tearing Wayne Bridge then Ashley Cole to pieces!"
James via text on 81111
The Glen Little love-in continues...
2035: Kaka volleys over in absolutely disastrous fashion. It's fair to say the Pompey fans very much enjoyed that one.
2033: But neither does Portsmouth's. Gennaro Gattuso's precise pass finds Pippo Inzaghi, who chips David James but sees the ball clip the top of the bar and land on top of the net.
2032: Peter Crouch heads against the back of Philippe Senderos. The Milan defence does not look impregnable by any means.
2030: Another word on those earlier games: Jamie O'Hara's winner for Tottenham has seen him jump to the top of the class with 7.85 on Player Rater, while Stephen 'in-form' Ireland is head and shoulders above his Manchester City colleagues with a sparkling 8.64. You can still have your vote on those two games but it seems that the technical woes have spread to the Pompey Player Rater.
Player Rater
2028: "Filippo Inzaghi - Born offside."

So true
2025: Poor defending from Portsmouth as Andriy Shevchenko is given the time to chest the ball down in the box. He shoots wastefully wide - a familiar sight for Chelsea fans.
2024: Kanu spins a delicious crossfield ball from left to right for Peter Crouch at the far post but the striker makes an awful mess of his shot. Tony Adams punches the air in frustration. Evenly matched game so far though.
2021: A first real sighting of world player of the year Kaka, who sprints past Nadir Belhadj as if he isn't there and sends a dangerous cross spinning out of play.
2020: "It seems to have been overlooked that AC Milan came to a rain sodden Glasgow last year (as European champs mind) and came away from Celtic Park beaten 2 -1. They are beatable despite the array of stars at their disposal."
Chris in Glasgow via text on 81111
2018: Oof. A let-off for Pompey. Mathieu Flamini wins another free-kick after a nothing challenge by Papa Bouba Diop. Andriy Shevchenko's 30-yard effort canons off the wall, Pippo Inzaghi swings a leg at it and sees his scuffed shot come back off the post and into David James' arms.
2016: Richard Hughes - perhaps over-excited at the thought of playing the club he supported as a lad - flies in on Mathieu Flamini and gets the evening's first yellow card.
2013: "Can't wait to see Glen Little tonight. Reading wouldn't have gone down last season if he'd been fit. He deserves to play against a huge club."
RoyalDrew, Reading, via text on 81111
Are you Mrs Little?
2011: "Shooooooot" shout the Pompey fans as Glen Johnson picks up the ball about 30 yards out, recalling the full-back's wonder goal against Hull at the weekend. Johnson thinks better of it.
2009: It's chucking it down on the south coast. Have the glamorous Italians seen rain before I wonder? Portsmouth looking to pass it around the back to settle the nerves.
2007: There's Kaka! At Fratton Park! Good lord. Off we go then.
2006: "12 months back if you'd told me Glen Little would be playing against Kaka and Ronaldinho, I'd been thinking more in terms of PES or FIFA...Can't believe this perennial crock's luck!!"

2003: Absolutely belting atmosphere at Fratton Park as the players walk out for Tony Adams' first European match as a manager. Portsmouth could do with a win here after losing to Braga in their opening game, while Milan only need a point to be certain of qualification after wins over Heerenveen and Braga.
2001: I hardly dare mention this, but the live videprinter appears to have failed. Here are the results so far:
Schalke 04 0-2 Manchester City
Galatasaray 0-1 FC Metalist Kharkiv
NEC Nijmegen 0-1 Tottenham
MSK Zilina 0-0 Slavia Prague
CSKA Moscow 2-1 Lech Poznan
2000: Finding it difficult to get your head round the idea of Pompey v AC Milan? You're not alone. Tony Adams doesn't seem to know what to make of it. "Don't get me wrong, this is probably the most prestigious match this club has ever played," he crows. So you'll be giving it everything then Tone? "Let's not big it up too much. It's feet-on-the-floor time. What we need to be focused on is staying in the Premier League." Righto.
1959: "Re 1939: I think Thomasbirty is rather optimistic, mainly due to the fact that Diarra isn't even on the bench let alone in the team! That would be some goal!"
Anon via text on 81111
1956: Portsmouth make three changes from the side that drew 2-2 with Hull, with Glen Little, Armand Traore and Kanu coming into the starting line-up in place of Noe Pamarot, Sean Davis and John Utaka. Kaka starts for AC Milan, as do former Gunners pair Philippe Senderos and Mathieu Flamini and former Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko.
1952: "Kaka starts because he is suspended for Milan's home game on Sunday with Palermo. Pretty certain he'll score today in his Uefa Cup debut!"

1950: FULL-TIME Schalke 0-2 Man City
1950: FULL-TIME NEC 0-1 Tottenham
1947: "At the game in Holland, cracking atmosphere and the Spurs are winning, great night so far!"
Rob, Spurs fan, via text on 81111
1942: Not a great game at the McDOS Goffertstadion where Spurs deservedly lead their Dutch opponents. Much better at the Veltins-Arena, where Manchester City have been impressive against Schalke - who lie seventh in the Bundesliga. City keeper Joe Hart has made a couple of fine saves, while Schalke stopper Manuel Neuer, reportedly a January target for the Eastlands club, might have done better with City's second.
1939: "I'm going with a 2-1 win for Pompey. Crouch and Diarra with the goals, and Ronaldinho scoring a late consolation."

1938: Interesting to compare the two benches at Fratton Park... Carlo Ancelotti can choose from Ronaldinho, Pirlo, Pato etc. Tony Adams can't even name a full seven subs.
1936: FULL TEAMS Portsmouth v AC Milan
Portsmouth: James, Johnson, Kaboul, Distin, Belhadj, Little, Diop, Hughes, Armand Traore, Crouch, Kanu. Subs: Ashdown, Hreidarsson, Pamarot, Mvuemba, Davis, Wilson.
AC Milan: Dida, Zambrotta, Favalli, Senderos, Antonini, Gattuso, Emerson, Flamini, Kaka, Inzaghi, Shevchenko. Subs: Kalac, Kaladze, Alexandre Pato, Seedorf, Pirlo, Bonera, Ronaldinho.
1934: In case you missed it, Spurs lead NEC (not the one in Birmingham) through Jamie O'Hara's first-half header. Manchester City have an impressive 2-0 lead over Bundesliga side Schalke, thanks to Benjani and Stephen Ireland goals. Should those scorelines stay the same, both English sides will have a foot in the last 32. Only once in Uefa Cup group stage history has a side with six points failed to go through. Less than 15 minutes remaining in both games.
1930: What time do you call this then eh? A million apologies, technical problems meant we could not cover the early games. Believe me, I'm almost certainly more gutted about that than you are. That leaves us with one game. But what a game: Portsmouth v AC Milan. AND KAKA STARTS!
