Colin Montgomerie and Alastair Forsyth will launch Scotland's bid to retain the World Cup with a fourballs match against hosts China on Thursday.

Montgomerie is aiming for more success, after beating the United States last year with Marc Warren to win the World Cup for Scotland for the first time.

"I am looking forward immensely to defending the title with Alastair this time around," Montgomerie said.

England's Ian Poulter and Ross Fisher take on Mexico in the first round.

A total of 28 nations are competing in Shenzhen, with Sweden's Robert Karlsson and Henrik Stenson the favourites.

Ireland duo Graeme McDowell and Paul McGinley play the Philippines and Wales' Bradley Dredge and Richard Johnson face India.

It is Montgomerie's 10th appearance at this tournament with the 45-year-old also hoping to become the first player since Tiger Woods in 2000 to retain the trophy for his country.

"It took a long time for Scotland to win the World Cup so winning in the play-off at Mission Hills was a wonderful feeling, very, very special," Montgomerie added.

Swedes Karlsson and Stenson are the strongest pairing on paper, ranked sixth and 12th in the world.

"We have only had one chance to play together before in the Ryder Cup and that worked well," said Karlsson, the 2008 European Order of Merit winner.

The United States, who have won the tournament 23 times, are represented by Ben Curtis and Brandt Snedeker.

"In our sport you do not get the opportunity too many times to compete for your country and this is going to be a thrill for me," said Snedeker.

After Thursday's opening round, Friday will feature foursomes action before the format switches back to fourballs on Saturday and then again to foursomes on the final day.
