The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has awarded the inaugural 2012 Winter Youth Olympics to the Austrian city of Innsbruck.
Innsbruck, hosts of the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics, beat Kuopio, Finland, and were favourites having had the best rating in an IOC evaluation report.
The 10-day event will feature about 1,000 athletes aged between 14 and 18.
They will compete in seven sports - skiing, ice hockey, biathlon, bobsled, curling, luge and figure skating.
