Levein set for new Tannadice deal

Levein has impressed since taking over at Tannadice

Dundee United manager Craig Levein is ready to agree a new deal to extend his Tannadice tenure.

The former Hearts and Leicester City boss will sign a contract extension despite having 18 months left on his current deal.

Levein has made a huge impression with United currently sitting just three points off third place in the SPL.

The 44-year-old was handed an additional role as director of football at the club this year.

Levein replaced Craig Brewster in October 2006 and after helping the club to safety in his first campaign, they finished fifth last term, narrowly missing out on European football.

He led United to the League Cup final last season before losing out to Rangers in a penalty shoot-out.

Championship side Watford had recently expressed an interest in luring Levein back to England.

But new United chairman Stephen Thompson has persuaded his manager that his future lies at Tannadice.

Late club owner Eddie Thompson - with whom the manager had a close relationship - appointed Levein to the board in January.

The former Hearts captain began his managerial career with Cowdenbeath and had a brief stint with Raith Rovers before arriving on Tayside.
