Meyer goes back to South Africa

Heyneke Meyer
Richard Cockerill will take charge while Meyer is away

Leicester Tigers head coach Heyneke Meyer is returning home to South Africa because of a serious family illness.

The club said Meyer had been released on compassionate grounds and the extent of his absence will be assessed over the next two weeks.

Forwards coach Richard Cockerill will take charge of the Tigers while Meyer is away.

He will gear up Leicester for their clash with Bath at home in the Guinness Premiership on Sunday.
