Edinburgh flanker Ross Rennie faces a period on the sidelines after undergoing a knee operation.
The 22-year-old will definitely miss Friday's David Lloyd 1872 Cup decider against Glasgow at Firhill.
Head physiotherapist TJ Johansson said: "Ross underwent the operation today to ascertain the full extent of the damage to his knee.
"We will wait for the results before determining how long his rehabilitation programme will last."
Earlier this month, Rennie received a two-week ban for a challenge on Paul Sackey in the 25-16 Heineken Cup defeat by Wasps.
