The current head coach of the Russian diving team has been appointed British diving's national performance director.

Alexei Evangulov will take over in March from Australian Steve Foley, who resigned after the Beijing Olympics.

Evangulov has overseen the Russian diving programme since 1992 and guided Russia to three silver and two bronze medals in Beijing.

It is hoped he will help 14-year-old Tom Daley to a medal at the London Olympics in 2012.

In Beijing, Plymouth's Daley became the youngest athlete to represent Great Britain at a Games for 48 years.
