Venue: Liverpool Echo Arena Date: Sunday, 14 December Time: 1900 GMT Coverage: Live on BBC One, BBC Radio 5 Live & BBC Sport website.
The top 10 contenders for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award will be announced on BBC One's The One Show on Monday 1 December at 1900 GMT.
It promises to be a strong line-up with Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton and Olympic cycling triple-gold medallist Chris Hoy expected to make the list.
Double Olympic swimming champion Rebecca Adlington also has a strong chance of making the final 10.
The winner of the award will be named at the event on Sunday 14 December.
Other members of the successful British Olympic cycling team which collected 14 medals in Beijing have also been tipped for selection, along with tennis star Andy Murray, who reached his first Grand Slam final this year and made it into the world's top four.
The 2007 winner Joe Calzaghe, who also may make this year's shortlist after victories over Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr, said he was surprised when he beat fellow boxer Ricky Hatton and Hamilton to land the coveted sporting accolade.
"A lot of people said Hamilton would win," the 36-year-old told BBC Sport.
"He was odds-on favourite at one stage. I didn't have great hopes of winning. When they announced Hatton was third and Hamilton was second I thought 'oh wow'.
"Not many boxers have won it and I became the first Welshman to win in 30 or 40 years."
Last December's show was held at the Birmingham NEC and this year the show moves to the Liverpool Echo Arena. It promises to be another spectacular night, this time in the European Capital of Culture.
