Defoe 'sickened' by phone threats

Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe
Juventus are rumoured to be ready offer £20m for Defoe

Jermain Defoe says he has received threats from Portsmouth fans which have made him feel "sick to my stomach".

The Portsmouth forward looks set to leave Fratton Park in January and has been linked with Tottenham, Manchester City and Serie A side Juventus.

"I have absolutely no idea how they got hold of my number but some of the calls have made me sick to my stomach," the 26-year-old told the Sunday Mirror.

"I cannot accept that it is coming from people with a balanced state of mind."

Defoe, who joined Portsmouth on deadline day in last year's January transfer window, continued: "I have reported it to officials at the club.

"It has infuriated and upset my family and left me wondering what on earth possesses people to do things like that."

The England international missed Portsmouth's goalless FA Cup draw with Bristol City on Saturday as he was suffering with flu.
