Defoe set for spell on sidelines

Tottenham look set to be without key striker Jermain Defoe for several weeks after he suffered a foot injury in training on Friday.

The 26-year-old has struck three goals in four starts since rejoining the club from Portsmouth earlier this month.

A Spurs spokesman confirmed Defoe is receiving treatment for a foot injury, but said the club hoped the striker would be out for no more than a month.

Spurs are 13th in the table, but just three points clear of the bottom three.

If Defoe is out for a month, he would miss Premier League games against Bolton, Arsenal and Hull, and Uefa Cup games against Shakhtar Donetsk.
