Davies excited by Derby return

Derby defender Andy Todd (hamstring) and striker Steve Davies (groin) are likely to miss the FA Cup clash.

Kris Commons required stitches in a gashed shin at Old Trafford in midweek but the midfielder is expected to be available to face his former club.

Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies has hinted he could make changes for this East Midlands derby at Pride Park.

Matt Thornhill is back after a groin injury, but the Reds will be without Guy Moussi and Julian Bennett.

BIG-MATCH FACTS

Derby against Nottingham Forest kicks off the fourth round of the FA Cup; it is one of three ties guaranteeing Championship representation in the last 16.

No split loyalties for Clough in derby game

These clubs are both haunted by relegation from the second tier.

Forest humbled Manchester City in the last round; Derby struggled to get past non-league Forest Green Rovers at the first time of asking.

Brian Clough had successful spells at both these clubs. Son Nigel is still looking for a first victory in charge of Derby; Billy Davies faces his former club holding a 100% record as manager Nottingham Forest (won two of two).

The League ladder

Nottingham Forest lie two places above Derby at 18th in the Championship; the Rams are two points above the relegation zone, Forest three points above the trap door.

DERBY COUNTY

Current form

Lost the last two.

Won two of six; the most recent victory being 1-0, home to Manchester United in the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final - a tie which they lost 3-4 on aggregate on Tuesday.

Recent FA Cup performance

Won all seven of their domestic cup ties this season, prior to Tuesday's reverse.

Hoping to make the last 16 for the second time in three years, but have only got past the fourth round once since they were quarter-finalists in 1999.

The Manager

This is Nigel Clough's first FA Cup tie as manager of Derby. He is best known for taking Burton Albion to a third round replay against Manchester United in 2006. The non-leaguers held the Red Devils to a goalless home draw, before losing 5-0 at Old Trafford.

FA Cup fact

Derby beat Charlton 4-1 after extra time to win the trophy for the one and only time in 1946. The match is noted as the first final when a player scored for both sides. Charlton's Bert Turner put Derby one-up with 10 minutes to go by deflecting into his own net, then forced extra time a minute later by equalising with his own free kick.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST

Current form

Won the last four.

Unbeaten in nine away from home (all competitions).

Recent FA Cup performance

Reached the last 16 once in the last 11 seasons; succumbing to Tottenham, after a replay in 2005.

The Manager

Billy Davies took Derby to the Premier League via the Play-offs in his first season in charge at Pride Park. He also took Preston and Derby to the last 16 of the FA Cup in successive seasons.

FA Cup fact

The 1979 and 1980 European champions have only won the FA Cup twice in their history (1898 and 1959).

HEAD to HEAD

All competitions

Derby are unbeaten in five matches against Nottingham Forest; they have won two and drawn three since Forest's 3-0 home win in the Championship on 19 March 2003.

The last two clashes were drawn, including this season's at Pride Park on 2 November, which ended 1-1. Emanuel Villa put through his own goal in the 55th minute, then equalised for Derby 11 minutes later.

These clubs were in the Premier League together in 1998-99.

FA Cup

This is the sixth time these clubs have been been drawn together in this competition; Derby have won three and lost two. The Rams are looking for a hat-trick, having knocked out Forest in 1936 (fourth round) and 1983 (third round). On that most recent occasion Derby were a Second Division club, and Forest in the top-flight. They then put out Chelsea and lost home to Manchester United.
