Milan get Beckham deadline boost

David Beckham
Beckham has scored two goals in four matches for Milan

AC Milan will not have to race to sign David Beckham before the close of the January transfer window if they want to keep him for the rest of the season.

Milan have registered the former England skipper until 30 June, his spokesman Simon Oliveira has confirmed.

Yet a written agreement is still in place with all parties that Beckham will return to LA Galaxy on 9 March.

Beckham has been with Milan since the start of the year, scoring twice in four matches.

The Rossoneri have made no secret of their desire to keep the 33-year-old after 9 March, but LA Galaxy are adamant that he will return to the United States.

Milan's Italy international midfielder Andrea Pirlo told the club's official TV station: "He was a great purchase and I hope he remains with us for a long time."

After scoring a spectacular free-kick from a tight angle against Genoa on Wednesday, Beckham was forced off the field after 71 minutes with an abductor injury.

The midfielder is now a doubt for this weekend's match against Lazio.
