No bids for Santa Cruz - Rovers

Roque Santa Cruz
Santa Cruz has scored four goals for Rovers this season

Blackburn chairman John Williams says Rovers are yet to receive any bids for striker Roque Santa Cruz.

The Paraguay international, 27, has been linked with a switch to Manchester City, whose manager Mark Hughes brought him to Ewood Park in July 2007.

But Williams told the Lancashire Telegraph there had been no offers.

"The Santa Cruz situation continues to hang over our heads, but we have no bids at the moment so there is nothing to discuss," he said.

Santa Cruz only signed a new contract with Rovers in August but told BBC BBC 5 Live last month that he would leave Ewood Park if a "better or an ambitious club" came in for him.

But Williams said his main concern was strengthening manager Sam Allardyce's squad as Blackburn, who are currently 19th in the Premier League, attempt to avoid relegation.

And he revealed Rovers were close to landing their first target of the January transfer window.

"There is one player we have moved on," added Williams. "I would say we are very close to making a bid for one player but I would again stress there is no emergency.

"Sam has had a very considered look at what we have got, though, and we think it would take a good player to improve on what we already have at the club.

"He is not taking a scattergun approach to the transfer window and I would stress at the moment there have been no bids made or received."
