Bopara hit a century in England's warm-up game in Barbados
|
Ravi Bopara is likely to replace the injured Andrew Flintoff at number six for England's fourth Test against West Indies in Barbados on Thursday.
Spinner Graeme Swann has a piece of bone floating around his elbow but he is putting off surgery and has been declared fit to play.
Tim Ambrose comes in at wicketkeeper as Matt Prior has returned home after his wife gave birth.
Meanwhile, inconsistent paceman Steve Harmison's starting place is in doubt.
The 30-year-old, who is the most likely of England's bowlers to extract the extra bounce on offer in Barbados, has shaken off a back injury, but captain Andrew Strauss revealed he is not certain to play.
The reality is that the reasons we dropped Ian Bell haven't particularly changed

He said: "There are two ways of looking at Steve Harmison.
"One is that he is frustrating and you don't always get the same level of performance out of him, the other is that he is a bowler and bowlers rely on rhythm that doesn't come as easily as people think.
"Generally with Steve if he is bowling quick and with hostility then no batsman likes facing him.
"He knows what we want from him and I think he knows how to get there so it is up to him to put that work in."
Amjad Khan, who travelled with Bopara from New Zealand, is being considered as a replacement for Harmison.
Bopara looks likely to get the nod as Flintoff's replacement though as Strauss dismissed the idea of Ian Bell making a swift return.
"The reality is that the reasons we dropped Ian Bell haven't particularly changed," he said Strauss.

"We feel that he needs to work on a few things and he needs to freshen up mentally.
"If he comes into the game then he wouldn't have had the opportunity to do that, or at least it would only have been a very short window to do that."
And with Swann not at full fitness, Bopara's medium pace may also prove useful as England attempt to level the series at 1-1 with one Test remaining.
Swann took eight wickets in the drawn Antigua Test last week, and is key to England's hopes of squaring the series.
The Nottinghamshire bowler had an operation to redress problems with the joint in his elbow a couple of years ago and admits further surgery will happen.
"It's happened two or three times over the last 18 months and usually a few days of rest works wonders," he said.
"It is a long-term problem which I have had for the last two or three years - it is bone that has fragmented off and floats around.
"Every now and again they go in the wrong place, it is very hard to manage because it is indiscriminate when they decide to mess up my bowling."
Key figure Flintoff misses out because of a hip injury, while Prior has returned to England to be with his wife and baby son.
Warwickshire keeper Ambrose deputises for Prior, keen to improve on an average of only 24 with the bat from 10 Tests.
He scored a century in only his second match against New Zealand last winter, but made only 97 runs in six innings in last summer's home series with South Africa.
Strauss is confident England can put the Antigua draw behind them as they look to level the series in Bridgetown.
Daren Powell and Fidel Edwards frustrated England in Antigua

"We showed in Antigua that we're capable of putting the West Indian team under pressure, we just need to go that step further this week," he said.
"We're certainly hopeful that the momentum of this series is changed and we can continue putting those guys under pressure in the first half of this Test match.
"But don't think we underestimate the size of the challenge ahead of us."
West Indies captain Chris Gayle is keen wrap up a first home series win since the 2004 victory over Bangladesh and a first victory over England since 1998.
"After the first game, we picked up that momentum but after that disaster at the Sir Viv Stadium and the change of venue, it kind of put us on the back foot," said Gayle.
"It was a disadvantage for us and it was hard to actually get that mind-set going again.
"But we know how important this game is. It's an opportunity for us to try and build on this and not give in to England as much as possible."
The Windies have no selection concerns and are likely to start with the same side that forced the draw in Antigua.
