Full-back Masi handed Italy call

Biarritz full-back Andrea Masi returns after a three-week suspension

Coach Nick Mallett has named a 30-man squad for Italy's remaining Six Nations matches, at home to Wales on 14 March and against France on 21 March.

Biarritz full-back Andrea Masi returns after missing the last three weeks through suspension, while seven players are promoted from the Italy A team.

The squad meets in Rome on Sunday and will be reduced to 24 two days later.

Winless Italy lost 26-6 in Scotland last weekend, a defeat that is likely to consign them to the wooden spoon.

Prior to their defeat in Edinburgh, Italy lost 38-9 against Ireland and went down 36-11 against England.

Masi was banned after the Ireland match for a dangerous tackle on Robert Kearney.

There were encouraging signs from the Italy A team who drew 22-22 against their Scottish counterparts last Friday, persuading Mallett to summon some of them up to an expanded senior squad.

Those called up are fly-half Kristopher Burton, back-rows Simone Favaro and Jean-Francois Montauriol, lock Tommaso Reato, prop Fabio Staibano, centre Roberto Quartaroli and wing Michele Sepe.
