South Africa restricted Australia's batsmen to take the second Twenty20 International in Pretoria by 17 runs and seal a 2-0 series success.
Australia could not score quickly enough to reach South Africa's total of 156-5 as the home side's spinners stifled the tourists.
Australia had performed confidently to hold South Africa to a low total but a subdued batting display let them down.
South Africa captain Johan Botha was the pick of the bowlers taking 2-16.
The two sides will now meet in five one-day internationals staring on 3 April.
