Azarenka was born in Belarus but trains in Arizona

Victoria Azarenka of Belarus has reached the Sony Ericsson Open final after a close-fought 6-3 2-6 7-5 win over Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova.

In a game lasting two hours and 40 minutes, the 19-year-old Azarenka secured victory after Kuznetsova had saved three match points.

Azarenka, number 10 in the world, has never reached a top-tier final before, but she has had a good start to 2009.

Two weeks ago the Belarussian reached the BNP Paribas Open semi-finals.
