Denman suffers Aintree heartache

Horse Racing

Denman fell two fences from home in the Totesport Bowl Chase on day one of the Grand National meeting at Aintree, as Madison Du Berlais claimed the win.

Denman, under Sam Thomas, was involved in a two-horse race with Tom Scudamore's mount and well clear of the field when disaster struck.

The former Gold Cup winner suffered a bad cut in a heavy fall, although he is expected to make a full recovery.

Exotic Dancer finished second, while Albertas Run finished third.

Ruby Walsh and Star De Mohaison fell at the first fence.
