By Thomas McGuigan

1444: Time and again Falkirk look impressive until they get to the penalty area and then they seem to crumble. An easy afternoon for new Rangers captain David Weir, and goalkeeper Neil Alexander so far...

1442: "I would like to see Andrew Little get on for Rangers today, having come off the bench to make his debut for Northern Ireland last weekend." Michael, via text, on 80295

1440: "It's been an interesting contrast in styles between the flowing passing game with no end result of Falkirk and the fast counter-attacking of Rangers." BBC Radio Scotland commentator David Begg

1437: Just over eight minutes remaining until half-time and Walter Smith must be happy with the way his players have responded to such a turbulent week for the Ibrox club.

1434: Falkirk manager John Hughes delivers a few ear-bleeding instructions to his forwards, then rests his arm on the exercise bike that one of his subs is galloping on.

I think the Fulham subs are put through their paces in the same way at Craven Cottage and I still find it funny every time I see it!

1431: Nacho Novo tears a hole through the centre of the Falkirk defence, but just as the little Spaniard prepares to pull the trigger he clatters into team-mate Kris Boyd and the chance is lost.

Novo's been the most impressive player on the pitch so far.

1430: "Am I being unfair or has Steven Davis gone off the boil recently?"
BBC Radio Scotland commentator David Begg

1429: Rangers midfielder Steven Davis spurns a great chance to play in defender Madjid Bougherra, who had made a lung-bursting 70-yard run, but the Northern Ireland international's pass is too heavy and the ball trundles out for a goal-kick.

1427: A neat one two on the centre circle and the ball played wide by the number six in midfield. But it's Falkirk's Kevin McBride with the silky pass, not the absent Barry Ferguson.

1425: With a lull in the atmosphere at the Falkirk Stadium, you can hear Bairns manager John Hughes bellow to one of his players: "You need to get on him!"

A bit of a tongue-lashing from Yogi. Brilliant!

1424: "Falkirk are enjoying a good little spell. The game is being played in Rangers half."
BBC Radio Scotland pundit Stephen Craigan

1423: "The game will flow more today without Ferguson. I know he is one of our own , but enough is enough. Stop knocking the Gers, let's get behind the team as we need a convincing win." youngBillyBlue on My Sport

1420: Falkirk midfielder Scott Arfield sends a 20-yard shot at goal, but Neil Alexander is equal to it.

1419: Falkirk have enjoyed 62% of possession in the opening 20 minutes, but the hosts have yet to create a chance in front of goal.

1418: Rangers goalkeeper Neil Alexander gets his mitts on the ball for the first time in the game as he confidently takes Lee Bullen's high centre.

Falkirk are showing plenty of industry so far, but are lacking a cutting edge.

1417: "The question before the start was what Rangers' response was going to be, well it's been answered: it's positive and full of energy and they've got the early goal." BBC Radio Scotland pundit Billy Dodds

1416: ...But Neil McCann's corner is easily dealt with by the Rangers defence.

1415: Falkirk force their first corner of the game. A chance to pressure Neil Alexander in the Rangers goal...

1412: "I think that the current Rangers team is the worst I've ever seen! Players like Broadfoot, Whittaker, Papac, McCulloch and Dailly wouldn't have got near the team a few years ago. Now they're regular starters. It's embarrassing.Walter is taking the club backwards at an alarming rate!" DadoTheFrazman on My Sport

Steady on Dado, Rangers could still secure a league and cup double this season. Surely that wouldn't be too shabby?

1409: GOAL! Falkirk 0-1 Rangers

Kris Boyd fires home from close range after Nacho Novo dances away from the Falkirk defence on the left and delivers a crisp low cross that's just inviting to be slammed home.

Bairns keeper Dani Mallo still hasn't touched the ball, but his side are behind at the Falkirk Stadium.

1404: The ball is being lashed here, there and everywhere at the moment! Both teams have yet to settle and neither goalkeeper has been called into action.

1403: A section of the Rangers supporters give the Tartan Army a hard time with an early ditto to liven up proceedings.

1401: We're under way at the Falkirk Stadium.

1359: "People may be offended by V-signs, but personally I get offended by things like seeing McCulloch on the pitch for Rangers. For all I tried to become a footballer, but he makes it to international level playing like that? Thats much more insulting than a sign."
TheChosenOne1989 on My Sport

Rangers midfielder Lee McCulloch is under the microscope on My Sport. Unfair criticism?

1354: "This game will have an important bearing in terms of the top and bottom of the SPL table."
BBC Radio Scotland commentator Richard Gordon

1350: "Boozegate - what a fiasco for Scottish football but great copy for the media hacks. I certainly don't condone or excuse what our lads have done, but l'm sick of the sanctimonious hacks trying to make out they are some kind of guardians of Scottish football. The sanctions applied to the two players are too severe." Terry, via text on 80295

1343: "No matter what you say, Ferguson and McGregor are massive players for Rangers and will be badly missed today. Falkirk should go for it." Kevin, via text on 80295

It will be strange watching Rangers without Ferguson as skipper today. I hope we're going to see plenty of goals at the Falkirk Stadium.

With Fleck and Novo on the flanks, Walter Smith will be hoping they can provide plenty of ammunition for Kris Boyd.

And I wonder how Steven Pressley will fare against his former club? I'm really looking forward to today's game.

1335: TEAMS

Falkirk: Dani Mallo, McNamara, Scobbie, Bullen, Pressley, McBride, Arfield, O'Brien, Cregg, McCann, Finnigan. Subs: Olejnik, Holden, Riera, Higdon, Aafjes, Mitchell, Moffat.

Rangers: Alexander, Whittaker, Papac, Weir, Bougherra, McCulloch, Davis, Fleck, Boyd, Mendes, Novo. Subs: Graeme Smith, Edu, Naismith, Dailly, Niguez, Velicka, Little.

Referee: I Brines

1330: Good afternoon one and all. What a week it's been.

Rangers travel to Falkirk this afternoon looking to close the gap on leaders Celtic to three points.

But they will attempt to do so without Barry Ferguson, who has been stripped of the captaincy, and team-mate Allan McGregor as they serve a suspension for their V-sign gestures while on Scotland duty.

David Weir, who will captain the side for the rest of the season, has admitted Rangers will miss the duo.

SPL basement side Falkirk know victory over Walter Smith's side would see them move level on points with St Mirren and Kilmarnock.

BBC Radio Scotland will provide commentaries from today's game which you can tune into via this website.
