Murray won his first five matches against Verdasco until Melbourne

Andy Murray will face his Australian Open conqueror Fernando Verdasco in the quarter-finals of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami on Friday.

The Scot, 21, has a 5-1 record against Verdasco but the Spaniard won an epic five-set clash in the fourth round of the Australian Open in January.

Murray plays Verdasco at 0000 BST with the winner to face either Rafael Nadal or Juan Martin del Potro.

Roger Federer will meet Novak Djokovic in Friday's second semi-final.

Murrray, who thrashed Victor Troicki 6-1 6-0 on Tuesday, insists his last meeting with Verdasco will not affect his chances in Miami.

606: DEBATE

"I've played him six times, I've won five," the British number one told BBC Radio 5 Live. "The last time he obviously played a very good match.

"Whoever I play against I never really think about the previous matches, on the day it doesn't make a difference.

"That's why tennis is so good - before Australia I'd won five times in a row against him and he beat me there.

"He's playing very well just now. He's a tough player, a lefty and hits the ball big so it will be a tough match."
