Serena Williams recovered from losing the opening set against Li Na to advance 4-6 7-6 (7-1) 6-2 to the Sony Ericsson Open semi-finals.
The number one seed offered her Chinese opponent an early sight of an upset as a series of unforced errors saw her slip to 5-1 down in the opener.
But Williams then swept through a second-set tie-break and carried her momentum through to a convincing win.
Williams will face either sister Venus or Iveta Beneseova in the last four.
