American Zach Johnson edged into a one-shot lead at the Quail Hollow Championship before lightning prevented the leaders from finishing their round.

Johnson took sole possession of the lead after world number one Tiger Woods bogied his last two holes to finish on nine under, a share of third place.

George McNeill is a shot back in second while overnight leaders Bubba Watson and Retief Goosen are three shots back.

Englishman Ross Fisher is the highest-placed European on seven under.

One shot off the pace at the start of the day, Woods found himself two down at the turn as McNeill emerged as a surprise leader.

But birdies on the 10th, 12th and 15th gave him a share of the lead, before he lost his touch in the closing stages.

"I hit the ball better today but to bogey the last two holes with two seven-irons is not the way you want to finish," said Woods.

"But I have a shot going into tomorrow. I hit some good shots on the back nine which was nice to feel."

After dropping shots on the second and fourth, Johnson rapidly improved with birdies on the seventh and ninth coming either side of an eagle.
