1037: So as the rain fell, the seeds were thriving: Jelena Jankovic 4-1 up, Svetlana Kuznetsova 5-1, Juan Martin del Potro 3-1. Some more Air on the TV feed. Lovely. I think they're my third favourite French band/artist behind Daft Punk and Johnny Hallyday.

1033: When will they get a roof? Well, 2011 actually, so that debate hasn't got a lot of legs.

It's raining
1031: Sheesh, just as I was about to unveil some more Petra Cetkovska facts, a massive rain dump on Roland Garros has the players scurrying for the changing room. "Is it going to rain for a while?" Jankovic asks a WTA rep as she gets to the tunnel. "I don't know," replies the WTA rep, not unreasonably.

1027: If bumble bees were improbably tall and skinny and wore bandanas, Juan Martin del Potro would indeed look like one. He's gone for a black, sleeveless number with horizontal white and yellow stripes. And he's already a break up on Michael Llodra.

From supersmude on 606: "Del Potro looks like a bumble bee. Worst outfit so far."

1022: Jelena Jankovic sits wrapped in not one but two towels during the changeover. There are spots of rain on the camera. About five people in the crowd. Truly, a magnifique day in Paris. Still, Svetlana Kuznetsova seems to be enjoying herself - already 3-0 up against France's Claire Feuerstein.

1018: Petra Cetkovska is 24 years old and from the Czech Republic. This is her second appearance at Roland Garros. Her favourite surfaces are hard and grass. She's not doing too badly on the red stuff though, holding her opening service game against JJ.

1012: We're under way on Court Phillipe Chatrier where Jelena Jankovic batters her way through the opening service game. If you're in the UK and you refresh this page, you should see some kind of live streaming going on up there. Meanwhile, continuing the gloomy theme, much harrumphing from my colleague as he discovers that the Morrissey gig he was meant to be attending tonight has been postponed. Heaven knows... etc etc.

1005: Also in action early in Paris: Svetlana Kuznetsova and Juan Martin del Potro (not in opposition obviously). Later, Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams...

1001: So just-about-dry weather means we can check out fifth seed Jelena Jankovic's opener against Petra Cetkovska, about whom I know absolutely nothing. Don't worry though, I'm on the case.

0959: Incroyable! My reverse psychology might actually have worked. I can see Roland Garros and while it's very definitely overcast, I don't think it's raining. And the TV feed has chosen a bit of moody French electronica band Air to accompany the pictures. What a start to the day.

It's raining
0955: Hello. I won't lie. I don't actually know that it's raining in Paris. It's just my naturally gloomy outlook. Still, it might work out as a neat bit of reverse psychology and when my TV eventually shows me Roland Garros, it will be basking in bright sunshine. Here's hoping...
