Ian Poulter continued his impressive recent form with a four-under-par 66 in the opening round of the prestigious Crowne Plaza Invitational in Texas.
Englishman Poulter, who finished second to Henrik Stenson in the Players Championship, is three shots behind leaders Woody Austin and Tim Clark.
Paul Casey, winner of the PGA Championship on Sunday also recorded a 66, with Luke Donald hitting a 68.
Fiji's Vijay Singh and American Kenny Perry are one off the lead after 67s.
Starting from the 10th, Poulter birdied his opening hole and, after missing out on a birdie at the par-five 11th, made amends with another at the 12th.
The 33-year-old picked up another shot at the 16th to reach the turn in 32, and added a fourth at the 3rd.
His only setback came with a double-bogey six at the 5th, but he bounced straight back with a birdie at the 6th and added another at the 8th.
Like Poulter, Casey birdied his first hole and had reached two under before a bogey at the par-three eighth.
However, that was the only blip of his round and birdies at 16 and 17 saw him pull clear of playing partners Jim Furyk and Anthony Kim who finished with rounds of 68 and 69 respectively.
Both American Austin and South African Clark carded flawless rounds with seven birdies and no bogeys round Colonial.
England's Greg Owen carded an opening 68 to lie two under, while compatriot Justin Rose fired a one-under 69.
