Scotland international Graham Alexander has signed a new one-year contract with Premier League newcomers Burnley.

The 37-year-old enjoyed a memorable campaign as the Clarets reached the top flight for the first time since 1976, starting all 61 league and cup games.

Although he spent much of his career as a defender, he starred as a holding midfielder in their play-off success.

Alexander was let go by neighbours Preston in 2007, when they turned down his request for a two-year deal.

However, he has now committed his future to Turf Moor until the summer of 2010.

Alexander has made over 750 League appearances in a 20-year career with Scunthorpe, Luton, Preston and Burnley.
