Haye no longer Klitschko priority

British boxer David Haye is no longer Wladimir Klitschko's priority after their heavyweight title fight in Germany on 20 June was cancelled.

Haye withdrew from their showdown at Schalke 04 FC's Veltins Arena, which had been a 60,000 sell-out, after suffering a back injury in training.

Ukrainian Klitschko will now target former WBA champion Ruslan Chagaev.

"Haye is still a possibility but our first priority is Chagaev," said Klitschko's coach Bernd Boente.

The pair had been set to fight for Klitschko's IBF, WBO and IBO belts.

Haye's manager and trainer David Booth has said that his fighter will definitely be fit three weeks later on 11 July and has asked Klitschko's camp to postpone rather than cancel their fight in Germany.

However, problems with television broadcasters and further doubts over Haye's fitness, could lead them to pursue other options, with unbeaten Uzbekistani Chagaev in pole position.

"We have already waited until June when we wanted to fight March, April," added Boente.

"We don't know if he will really be ready on 11 July. It could be that he hurts his back again and we have the same problem.

"The important question is are RTL happy to go on July 11? Are HBO ready to go three weeks later?

"The stadium will be OK for July 11. Chagaev would be a big fight. It would be for The Ring belt. I have got confirmation from The Ring [magazine]."

Other fighters such as WBA champion Nicolay Valuev have also been mentioned to face Klitschko.

Valuev, the 7ft Russian, had his own fight against Chagaev cancelled last Saturday when the Uzbekistani failed a medical.

But Boente says only Haye or Chagaev are in the mix to fight Klitschko.

We have 10 different fighters looking to fight," Bonte added.

"Kevin Johnson, Brian Minto, Michael Grant. But at the moment we are only interested in Chagaev or Haye on June 20 or three weeks later.

"I hope we will know what we are doing in the next three days."

Haye, 28, is desperate to reschedule the fight and his camp have not given up hope of meeting the 33-year-old whose brother Vitali holds the WBC belt.

"David is gutted," said Booth.

"He was close to everything he had ever dreamed of but we had to make a logical decision that he wasn't right to fight.

"He has had a back ache for two or three weeks now, and then a couple of days ago it became more of a concern and he couldn't do some of the sessions that he needed to.

"But David's about to start aggressive physiotherapy and will be fit and ready to fight on 11 July.

"It's entirely up to them if they still want to fight David."
