New-look England set for France

Ryan Hall

England coach Tony Smith has named three uncapped players in his 19-man squad for the international against France in Paris on 13 June.

Leeds winger Ryan Hall, Wigan half-back Sam Tomkins and Huddersfield hooker Scott Moore - currently on loan from St Helens - are set to make their debuts.

Smith said: "This is a squad featuring a lot of new and exciting faces as well as seasoned campaigners.

"It's a team that is full of speed and skill and people who can score tries."

Hall is Super League's joint top try-scorer with 13, while Tomkins has made a big impact since forcing his way into the Wigan team.

Moore is joined in the squad by Huddersfield team-mate Eorl Crabtree, whose nine previous international appearances were for a second-string England side.

As expected, Smith has made sweeping changes after England's dismal World Cup, with just six survivors from November's semi-final defeat by New Zealand.

They are James Graham, Danny McGuire, Adrian Morley, Jamie Peacock, James Roby and Ben Westwood.

Sam Burgess and Sean O'Loughlin return to the international fold after missing the World Cup through injury.

Of the rest, Keith Senior has retired, Ade Gardner is injured and Gareth Ellis, now playing in Australia for Wests Tigers, was not considered.

Martin Gleeson, Paul Wellens, Leon Pryce, Rob Burrow, Mark Calderwood, Rob Purdham, Mickey Higham and Jon Wilkin have all been overlooked but will be hoping to press their claims for the end-of-season Four Nations tournament.

The squad, which will again be captained by Leeds forward Jamie Peacock, features players from 11 different clubs and contains 12 players aged 25 or under.

Smith added: "This game will also be about looking at a number of new faces to see how they perform on the international stage with one eye on this autumn's Four Nations."
