England players celebrate scoring against the Netherlands
England enjoyed a shock win over the Netherlands in the last four

England's men will face world and Olympic champions Germany when they contest their first EuroHockey Nations final for 22 years on Sunday.

A dramatic last-minute golden goal from Ashley Jackson gave England a 2-1 semi-final win over hosts the Netherlands.

Germany and England shared a 4-4 draw in the group stage, with England leading 4-2 at one stage.

"It is going to be a very tough final," assistant coach Bobby Crutchley said of facing the six-time champions.

"You never write off the Germans. They started very poorly in Beijing a year ago and went on to win the Olympics."

England beat Austria 5-0 in their opening fixture before drawing with Germany and thrashing Belgium 8-2 to reach the last four, with Jackson having scored six goals in the tournament so far.

The only previous occasion that England's men have made the European final was in Moscow in 1987, when a team that included the likes of Sean Kerly lost to the Netherlands on penalty strokes.

England's women won the bronze medal in their championship after beating Spain 2-1 on Saturday.
