Barnsley 3 - 1 West Brom

West Brom missed the chance to go top of the Championship as they were soundly beaten at Barnsley.

Adam Hammill grabbed the opener when he picked up a loose ball and turned his marker before prodding home.

Iain Hume grabbed his first goal since returning from his fractured skull from the spot after Shelton Martis had fouled Jon Macken.

Martis's own goal secured Barnsley's first home win of the season, despite Chris Brunt's long-range consolation.

The Baggies suffered their third defeat in just over a week and a second league loss in four days.

But the victory was just rewards for Mark Robins's Barnsley side, who produced a wonderful first-half performance which belied their lowly league position.

The Tykes move out of the relegation zone with the win, while the Baggies, who improved somewhat after the break, stay second.

They could slip five points behind if leaders Newcastle beat QPR on Wednesday.
