Burnley have confirmed that midfielder Chris McCann has been ruled out for up to three months with a knee injury.
The 22-year-old damaged his medial ligament in a challenge with Sunderland defender Michael Turner in the Clarets 3-1 win at Turf Moor on Saturday.
"Chris has suffered a bad injury and I expect him to be out for a minimum of two to three months," said Burnley manager Owen Coyle.
"It's very unfortunate and a body blow for Chris."
McCann has played in all six of Burnley's Premier League matches so far this season, helping the club amass nine points in a solid start to their first campaign back in the top flight.
"Whenever he has been available he has been in my team," added Coyle. "I think the world of him, both as a player and a lad and the good thing is he is at such a young age he will come back better and stronger for it.

"He was all set to take the Premier League by storm... and he will, when he comes back.
"If we are talking about three months he should be back in December and then he will still have another five or six months to play in the Premier League. You have to look ahead to that and be positive."
McCann is a product of the Burnley academy, having moved to Lancashire from Home Farm in his native Ireland.
Last season he scored eight goals in 58 appearances and was named Burnley's Young Player of the Year for the third successive season.
He has represented the Republic of Ireland at Under-19 level.
In November 2007 he withdrew from the Ireland Under-21 squad to play Bulgaria two hours before kick-off as a result of being named on the bench.
Coyle also revealed that Clarets captain Steven Caldwell will return to training on Monday.
The 28-year-old Scottish central defender has yet to feature this season after picking up a groin injury during his country's 4-0 defeat in Norway on 12 August.
