Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour has taken total control of the club after buying former owner Thaksin Shinawatra's remaining 10% of shares.
The former prime minister of Thailand took control of City in 2007, selling to Sheikh Mansour a year later but retaining the stake in the club.
Since Mansour became involved, City have spent almost £200m on players.
They include Carlos Tevez and Gareth Barry, who have helped Mark Hughes' team to fourth in the Premier League.
But after an influx of high-profile signings, City's executive chairman Garry Cook says the club wants to concentrate on developing its youth academy, which has produced players such as Shaun Wright-Phillips and Stephen Ireland.

City have appointed their former academy director Jim Cassell to oversee a new Academy facility in Abu Dhabi.
It is thought Mansour, whose Abu Dhabi United Group owns City, is interested in building a training facility on land around the club's Eastlands Stadium.
