Notts County reveal takeover pair

Notts County

Notts County have bowed to pressure and revealed the identities of two of the members of the independent trust which bought the League Two club in July.

The Shafi and Hyat families, who have business interests in the Middle East and Asia, have both agreed to be named.

"Confusion and misplaced allegations have forced us to ask them to reveal themselves," a club statement read.

The two families are investors in Qadbak Investments, a subsidiary of which brokered the deal to buy County.

Until now, County have remained tight-lipped on the identities of the people behind the purchase of the League Two club.

But intense speculation, sparked by the high-profile departure of Sol Campbell earlier this week, forced them to ask for permission to reveal the information.

"I can confirm that the families have a significant holding in Qadbak and are very pleased with the diversified range of assets we have invested in," said Anwar Shafi.

"But we are a private business and do not wish to comment any further."

The Football League confirmed earlier this week that they were looking into the purchase of the club.

Now County hope Sunday's announcement will convince the League to give them the green light.

"Despite giving the Football League every possible answer they have yet to publicly confirm their approval," the statement continued.

"We hope this statement will speed that process considerably."

Peter Trembling, who fronted the consortium of investors and took up the role of chief executive at Meadow Lane, had insisted earlier on Sunday that the Football League was not looking into the surprise takeover of the Magpies.

"There is no investigation," he told BBC Radio 5 live's Sportsweek programme.

"We've completed the 'fit and proper persons test', which we have to do quite rightly for the directors of the football club.

"Of course they have asked more questions because it is unusual circumstances - a private overseas investment trust - and they want to know more about that."
