 Chang enjoyed by far the biggest win of her career against Safina

World number one and defending champion Dinara Safina made a shock early exit with defeat by Taiwanese qualifier Chang Kai-chen at the Pan Pacific Open.
Safina had a first-round bye as the top seed in Tokyo but saw her poor run of form continue in her opening match.
The Russian double-faulted to drop serve when trying to close out the match in the third set and went on to lose 7-6 (7-5) 4-6 7-5.
Chang, ranked 132nd, will face Gisela Dulko of Argentina in the third round.
Safina lost to the unheralded Petra Kvitova in the third round of the US Open in her last tournament.
Venus Williams, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Maria Sharapova are all in action in Tokyo later on Monday.
