In Chatham especially, the summer and fall seasons are when seals love to play in Cape Cod.

Seal watching is a curious event and many of us find them irresistible and cute. At the Cape, there are several tours that provide close-up looks of these playful and adorable animals.

One such tour is called "Beachcomber Tours".

Just Be On The Lookout For Yellow Boats!

In Chatham Harbor you will often see yellow Beachcomber boats. This is where Beachcomber Tours offers adventurous Cape Cod Seal Tours. Common places are by the waterways at North Beach, the Break and Chatham Light.

So you can feel comfortable that your family is in safe hands - ALL Beachcomber captains are U.S. Coast Guard Licensed Masters.

Cape Cod Seals

The most common seals you will end up seeing are harbor seals and grey seals. The most abundant of seals in New England are the harbor seals. Often found close to harbor entrances, they enjoy soaking up the sun alongside the beaches and relaxing by the shoals of Chatham.

You will find that grey seals are more rare in other parts of the country, but here in Cape Cod people have actually recorded sightings by the coasts of Chatham and Nantucket. This is the southernmost breeding ground for the grey seals. Did you know, these seals' numbers are regulated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service?

The Best Time For Seal Watching

On a sunny afternoon about midday is the best time to go seal watching - within two hours of low tide. See, seals can't move around very well on land. When it is high tide, seals anchor themselves over submerged jetties. Yet when it is low tide, the seals are then exposed, relaxing on the jetty and soaking up the sun.

Cape Cod seals are truly one of the most amazing Cape Cod tourist attractions - so why put off going on your seal watching tour?
