Jockey Holland in fake cash probe

Darryll Holland
Holland has had 72 winners from 500 rides this season

Top jockey Darryll Holland missed his mounts at Newmarket on Saturday amid reports of his arrest for allegedly trying to pass counterfeit cash.

The Sun reported the 37-year-old English Flat racing rider tried to buy two mobile phones with fake American dollars with a friend in Cyprus.

Holland's agent David Harrison told the Racing Post: "This is the first I have heard and to be honest I am in shock."

Holland had been lined up for four rides at Newmarket on Saturday.

He had been due to ride Fanunalter in the 1405 GMT, Bushman at 1435, Dark Eyes at 1510 and Swift Chap in the 1615.

The Sun reported that Holland could face jail if found guilty.
