Stirling Mortlock will miss Australia's game against England at Twickenham on 7 November because of a torn calf muscle.

The former Wallabies skipper sustained the injury in training and has also been ruled out of the match against New Zealand in Tokyo on 31 October.

However, the 32-year-old centre hopes to be fit in time for Australia's encounter with Ireland on 15 November.

"I think realistically we're targeting being 100% right by that week leading into the Ireland match," he said.

"The best way forward for me is getting treatment here in Australia and doing that over the next two and a half weeks and hopefully meeting up with the team, raring to go."

Mortlock missed Australia's last four matches of the Tri-Nations series following a knee injury sustained against South Africa but was recalled for the northern hemisphere tour.

He was recently stripped of the captain's armband in favour of former Leinster flanker Rocky Elsom.

Robbie Deans' Australia side finished bottom of the Tri-Nations table following five defeats in six matches.
