Gene has had two spells at Hull KR in his career
|
Hull KR veteran Stanley Gene has turned down the chance to join Rovers' backroom staff and decided to carry on playing for Championship side Halifax.
The 35-year-old Papua New Guinea international has agreed a one-year deal, with a 12-month option, with the Championship Grand Finalists.
"There was Super League interest and he had a couple of Championship options," said chief executive Graham Clay.
"We are delighted he has decided to come to Halifax."
Gene will be reunited with former Hull KR team-mate and fellow countryman Makali Aizue at The Shay, and Clay said he could not wait to see Gene in action in a Halifax shirt.

"Anyone who has seen him play recently knows he is a quality player and we think at our level he will rip it up.
"There will be an opportunity for Stanley to do some coaching but first and foremost he is coming as a player."
