Scotland's record points scorer Chris Paterson has returned to training with his team-mates at St Andrews after recovering from a foot infection.

The 31-year-old Edinburgh full-back missed his side's Magners League defeat by Newport Gwent Dragons on Sunday despite undergoing hospital treatment.

But, after assessment by Scotland staff, Paterson was passed fit for the last day of the three-day session.

Edinburgh's Ben Cairns did not train because of an ongoing knee injury.

Cairns continues to receive treatment for the problem which forced the centre to leave the pitch after 31 minutes of the match against the Dragons.

At the weekend, Scotland head coach Andy Robinson added Edinburgh prop Kyle Traynor, 23, to the squad get-together ahead of the autumn Tests as cover for Alasdair Dickinson.

The Gloucester player has since returned to his club as he remains affected by a shoulder injury, and looks doubtful for the Murrayfield contest against Fiji on 14 November.

Another player to sit out Wednesday's final training camp session was Johnnie Beattie.

However, the Glasgow Warriors number eight's absence was as a precautionary measure as he was being troubled by a groin complaint.
