It's that time of year when people turn over a new leaf, and one of the most popular resolutions for the New Year is to exercise. Many people will have had gym equipment for Christmas, but what they might not know is that it's important to keep your treadmills in good working order by keeping the deck lubricated.

Treadmill lubricant isn't expensive to buy, in fact a small bottle of Deck lubricant will last you around 12 months!

The treadmill deck takes a lot of stress when used (imagine what it feels like to have someone running on your chest for hours on end!) and it's important to keep it well maintained. The wear and tear on the mechanical parts will eventually mean a callout to fix your treadmill, so keep it well lubricated to reduce the long term damage. It also means that you get more out of your treadmill so the treadmill becomes better value for money!

When you apply Treadmill lubricant it is important to follow these 5 easy steps to ensure effective lubrication.

Step 1 Adjust the rear roller to tighten the running belt slightly if required.

Step 2 Check for dust, grit, and debris from shoes etc and remove. Any dust that remains on the deck may absorb the lubricant and render it less effective.

Step 3 Wipe down the motor hood and side rails with a soft cloth and a none slip polish.

Step 4 Apply the correct amount of the Treadmill lubricant to the deck. Most lubricant kits come with a syringe that allows for accurate application.

Step 5 Set the machine at 2MPH and walk the Deck lube in to the deck. This ensures that all the moving parts inside get a share of the lubrication.

It really is that easy to keep your treadmill in good working order! For a small investment, probably around £10, you can keep your treadmill, probably a more significant investment, in good working order and you can stick to those New Year’s Resolutions without any excuse!
