Asif made the most of the helpful conditions in Sydney

Mohammad Asif claimed a career-best 6-41 as Pakistan skittled Australia for 127 on a rain-delayed opening day of the second Test at Sydney.

Home captain Ricky Ponting opted to bat but he was out first ball as Mohammad Sami reduced Australia to 10-3.

Seamer Asif then ripped out the middle order in helpful conditions, with only Nathan Hauritz (21) and Mitchell Johnson (38) offering any resistance.

Pakistan were 14-0 in reply when bad light ended play early.
