Carling Cup semi-finals postponed

Snow at Eastlands
Pitches at both grounds were playable but safety concerns were paramount

Freezing conditions in the north of England have forced the postponement of both Carling Cup semi-final first legs.

Blackburn's home match against Aston Villa at Ewood Park on Tuesday was first to be called off at 1110 GMT.

It was followed at 1335 by Manchester City's derby tie at Eastlands on Wednesday against Manchester United.

The Blackburn-Villa ties have yet to be rearranged but the first leg of City v United will take place on January 19, with the second match a week later.

The BBC will televise the first leg of the all-Manchester encounter.
