1546: Hearts have had to deal with mounting pressure from Aberdeen as we approach half-time and will be glad to hear the referee's whistle; it's still goalless.

1545: The linesman's flag denies Hibs again. This time it's Anthony Stokes poking the ball in at the back post after a great, mazy run from David Wotherspoon.

1545: Partick Thistle are attacking with a burning sense of injustice at Firhill but United's goal, and lead, remains intact.

1543: That should settle a few Hibs nerves. Anthony Stokes cuts in from the left and tees up Merouane Zemmama to crash home a powerful shot from 18 yards.

1542: GOAL! Hibernian 2-0 Irvine Meadow (Zemmama)

1541: Thistle's Marc Corcoran, with team-mates rushing into the United box, selfishly has a pop at goal, which is blocked.

1540: David Graham fires home a fourth for the Pars with a cool finish and it's going to be a long afternoon for Stenny fans...

1539: Derek Young's cross is headed towards goal by Darren Mackie but Marian Kello makes a superb diving save before Fraser Fyvie sends the rebound harmlessly across the face of goal.

1538:Irvine Meadow striker Brian McGinty strikes the post with a fantastic curling shot that had Graeme Smith beaten all ends up.

1535: Partick Thistle are still bristling over United's opener and the atmosphere is crackling away furiously at Firhill.

1534: Full-back David Wotherspoon cuts in from the right and sends a teasing ball across goal for Derek Riordan to bundle in from close range. Hibs draw first blood but the Junior outfit are giving as good as they get.

1533: Dundee United's Craig Conway is denied by Thistle goalkeeper Jonny Tuffey when a pass across goal was surely the better option.

1531: Billy Mehmet's header hits the post it comes back and hits Alloa goalkeeper David Crawford and trundles into the net. It's going down as an own goal - but BBC Scotland's Chick Young is adamant it's Mehmet's goal!

1530: Partick Thistle manager Ian McCall is furious that Damian Casalinuovo's goal stands. Did the striker punch Garry Kenneth's volley into the net? The Thistle players and manager think so. Fury melts the snow at Firhill.

1528: Change of ball required at Firhill - not for a wintry yellow one, though; it's just that the original white ball has had the stuffing knocked out of it.

1527: Irvine Meadow keeper Michael Wardrope gets down to keep out a low, angled strike from Derek Riordan. The home support are growing a little frustrated at Easter Road...

1526: Ian Black's long-range drive sails over the Aberdeen crossbar.

1525: East End Park is in the icy grip of a goal blizzard. Nicky Phinn has made it three for the Pars and BBC Scotland reporter Kenny MacIntyre says he "fears the worst" for battle-weary Stenny...

1521: The Pars turn the screw at East End Park with a quickfire double. William Gibson gives the hosts a deserved lead and Andy Kirk doubles their lead.

1520: Darren Mackie steals the ball from the indecisive Ismael Bouzid and tries to chip Marian Kello but the ball clears the Hearts crossbar.

1519: Hibs have the ball in the net but Derek Riordan's header is disallowed for a cheeky wee shove on a defender at the back post.

1517: Partick Thistle come within inches of taking the lead. Alan Archibald's inviting cross is headed just over by Simon Donnelly.

1515: Dunfermline have been on top against Stenhousemuir in the opening 15 minutes at East End Park but have yet to make their territorial advantage count.

1514: St Mirren's Craig Dargo spurns a great chance to open the scoring against Alloa. BBC Scotland's Chick Young has just described Alloa's strip as "one of the worst I've ever seen". Ouch!

1513: As the snow gently flutters down at Easter Road, we are being treated to a wide open game. It's end to end stuff, with Irvine Meadow giving as good as they are getting.

1511: Partick defender Alan Archibald gallops forward before sending in a dangerous low cross into the Dundee United penalty area, but Simon Donnelly can't nip in ahead of keeper Dusan Pernis.

1510: We're still goalless in all of this afternoon's five ties.

1508: Irvine Meadow are showing no signs of nerves against their Scottish Premier League opponents and force a corner, which is well held by keeper Graeme Smith. Cause for concern for Hibs boss John Hughes.

1507: Hearts' Scott Robinson sends a dangerous ball across the Aberdeen box but Ian Black hesitates at the back post and fails to connect.

1505: Partick Thistle defender Alan Archibald almost scores an own goal with an almighty sclaff inside the six-yard box, but keeper John Tuffey claws the ball away with Ninja-like reflexes to prevent a real howler!

1440: I'm doing my best to keep warm here - star jumps at the keyboard and the like. This weather reminds me of the film Rocky IV, where the bold Balboa braves the elements in a frozen Moscow, to be put through his paces by Apollo Creed's old trainer before taking on the mighty Ivan Drago.

1434: As we collectively shiver during this never-ending cold snap, let's hope for a goal blitz from this afternoon's five ties to warm our cockles. Not sure if we'll see an orange ball used in any of the games but I'd imagine more than a few players will be wearing gloves to keep the cold at bay.

1432: Dunfermline and Stenhousemuir are renewing acquaintances for the first time since season 1985/86, when they were last both in the same division and also met in the Scottish League Cup. Stenny's last victory over the Pars was in season 1984/85.

1427: St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson freshens up his side for the visit of Alloa. Chris Innes - who came off the bench to net a late winner in the league win over Kilmarnock - comes into the starting line-up along with Alan Johnson, Steven Thomson and Steven Robb. Captain John Potter is sidelined with a hamstring strain, while Michael Higdon returns from suspension and is named on the bench.

1425: Alloa will make their first trip to St Mirren Park, where the home team have only enjoyed four wins since the stadium opened in January of last year. However, three of those four wins have been in cup competitions and the Buddies have yet to lose a cup tie at their new ground. Alloa thrashed St Mirren 4-0 when the two sides last met in a Division One clash in May 2003.

1424: A couple more stats for you: Partick Thistle last triumphed over Dundee United in a league match in March 1995. Managerless United will face one of their former team bosses in Thistle's Ian McCall.

1421: My colleague has challenged me not to mention the "romance of the cup" at any stage during this afternoon. So I won't, apart from now, obviously...

1420: Hearts also make three changes to the side that drew 1-1 with Hibernian with Australian Rocky Visconte given a debut at left-back in place of Lee Wallace. Elsewhere, Ian Black replaces the suspended Ruben Palazuelos and Christian Nade's spot in attack is taken by Scott Robinson.

1419:There are three changes to the Aberdeen side following last week's win over Dundee United. Ricky Foster, Andrew Considine and the suspended Davide Grassi drop out with Maurice Ross, Derek Young and Lee Miller coming in.

1413: Hibs boss John Hughes, showing today's opponents massive respect, makes just one change to the side that drew last weekend's Edinburgh derby. Striker Colin Nish comes in for the suspended Darren McCormack.

1411: "We just want to put on a good show," Irvine Meadow manager Chris Strain tells BBC Scotland. "Hibs have a lot of excellent players and are very aggressive in attack. They put teams on the back foot and we know we'll have to tighten things up."

1410: A few stats for you to chew over with your lunch and hot cup of tea... Aberdeen and Hearts last met in the Scottish Cup in February 2006 when eventual tournament winners Hearts triumphed 3-0 in the fourth round tie at Tynecastle. And Irvine Meadow became the first junior side to knock a senior club out of the cup when they overcame Arbroath in the third round.

1400: The third round of the Scottish Cup was always a big day in the Scottish sporting calendar. Well, now it's the fourth round when the big guns enter the competition, and today just five out of 15 matches survive the freezing weather. Aberdeen play Hearts, Dunfermline take on Stenhousemuir, St Mirren face Alloa, Partick Thistle welcome Dundee United and Hibernian play Ayrshire junior side Irvine Meadow.
