1343:
From JesusHFlynn On My Sport:
"This game is screaming out for Paddy McCourt"
|
|
1342: "The rumour mill is in full force here at New Douglas Park that Hamilton's James McArthur could be heading to Ibrox as a replacement for Pedro Mendes." BBC Radio Scotland commentator David Begg
1341: The 5,000 or so brave souls at New Douglas Park are seeking a goal to cheer. A wee bit of magic is needed to enliven proceedings.
1338: Landry N'Guemo's shot is partially blocked and easily gathered by Tomas Cerny. Toothless stuff from Celtic.
1335: Given what's at stake for the visitors, it's surprising how low-key Celtic's approach has been. More dropped points would trigger more than a few high-fives over at Ibrox ahead of Rangers' clash with Falkirk.
1334: We're back under way at New Douglas Park. Here's hoping for some better fare...
1322: On a brighter note, BBC pundit Jim Traynor is currently pouring tea for the boys in the gantry at New Douglas Park. He's clearly a man of many talents...
1321: "In the final third when you've been looking for a bit of magic, it's not been there. It's a game that's crying out for a goal." BBC Radio Scotland pundit Craig Paterson
1320: Stay with us, don't go and wash the car or walk the dog. The second half will be better! I promise...
|
|
1316: We're into two minutes of injury time at the end of a fairly tepid first half.
1315: Celtic debutant Jos Hooiveld goes close to opening the scoring from Ky's corner, but his shot flashes just wide. That's about the closest we've come to seeing a goal. Two minutes to the break.
1313: Mark McLaughlin scrambles the ball away unconvincingly for Hamilton as Celtic force a corner four minutes before the break. But Darren O'Dea heads well over the bar. Shooting and heading practise needed all-round, by the look of it.
1312: "Marc-Antoine Fortune had to do better there and hit the target." BBC Radio Scotland pundit Craig Paterson
1311: Marc-Antoine Fortune latches onto Georgios Samaras's headed pass but his shot is brilliantly saved by the alert Tomas Cerny and Fortune blazes the rebound wildly over. Oh dear...
1310: Celtic's sole creative outlet in this first half, is clattered by Accies defender Mark McLaughlin on the halfway line. Still very little in the way of goalmouth action. Come on both teams, get the collective finger out!
1305:
From EmrodRidesAgain On My Sport:
"Young Josh Thompson is quite a unit, eh? Some size and seems quite mobile. Might he be a long term solution to that leaky back line?" He certainly looks the part. I wonder if he could perform in a back three alongside the two new central defensive recruits?
|
|
1303: Aaah, the commentator's nightmare... No sooner had Craig Paterson mentioned the absence of efforts on target, Accies keeper Tomas Cerny saves well from Marc-Antoine Fortune's low drilled shot.
1302: "It's been a decent game but the problem has been lack of chances. Neither Tomas Cerny or Artur Boruc have been overworked." BBC Radio Scotland pundit Craig Paterson
1300: Artur Boruc gets a rare touch of the ball in this drab first half as he gathers before launching a long kick deep into Hamilton territory. The big Pole was far from convincing in the midweek defeat by Hibs and his fellow countryman Lukasz Zaluska must have an eye on his starting place.
1257: Celtic right back Andreas Hinkel finds himself in space on the wing but his heavy cross evades Marc-Antoine Fortune and the visitors' sluggish attacks continue to disappoint. Accies looking fairly comfortable at the moment.
1255: What was that we were saying about Samaras? Aiden McGeady dinks the ball to the Greek on the edge of the area, but the big fella was dozzing there and Hamilton clear. Cue howls of frustration from the Celtic fans.
1254: "As soon as Celtic get the ball, Plan A is to get the ball to McGeady ... they see him as the matchwinner." BBC Radio Scotland pundit Craig Paterson
1253: We've had 20 minutes so far here and nothing of note to get the supporters on their feet.
1251: Celtic striker Georgios Samaras, as if stung by the criticism on My Sport, gallops down the left before his run and shot is easily repelled by a sea of red and white Accies jerseys. We need a bit of magic down New Douglas Park way...
1248: In response to David Attenborough's scathing criticism of Celtic's big Greek striker, EmrodRidesAgain offers a defence of the hitman.
"Samaras is top scorer this season. He misses a lot but he never hides and keeps going."
|
|
1246: Aiden McGeady's deep centre is nodded back across goal by Marc-Antoine Fortune, but the Accies clear before Samaras can pounce.
1244:
From DavidAttenborough On My Sport:
"I might regret saying this later, but after Wednesday, what is Samaras doing playing? His was the worst display from a centre forward I have seen since Brattbakk graced the Breeze Block!"
A brutal assessment of the Greek striker over on My Sport...|
|
1243: Aiden McGeady pulls Celtic's first chance of the afternoon well wide of Tomas Cerny's goal. The Accies keeper, with a nifty-looking baseball cap on to shield his eyes from the winter sun, looks completely untroubled.
1241: "Celtic are looking nervous now. One goal might just settle them." BBC Radio Scotland commentator David Begg
1240: Marc-Antoine Fortune tries to outfox Hamilton's offside trap but is flagged offside. Replays show he was just on. Neither goalkeeper has been forced into action as yet, with a little under 10 minutes gone.
1239: Celtic can ill-afford to drop any more points in the title race. They trail Rangers by 10 points at the moment, albeit with a game in hand. With the defending champions facing Falkirk later this afternoon, the pressure is on.
1238: Accies manager Billy Reid must be feeling the cold: he gives a quick blow of the cheeks and jumps up and down on the touchline. A bit of goalmouth action would no doubt warm the gaffer up...
1237: Hamilton have Celtic penned into their own half at the moment but the hosts have been unable to force goalkeeper Artur Boruc into action.
1236:"A sharp start from Celtic as they're winning every 50-50 ball." BBC Radio Scotland pundit Craig Paterson
1234: Hamilton teenager Jordan Kirkpatrick forces an early corner for the home side but the Celtic defence deal with Brian Easton's delivery.
1232: Landry N'Guemo is looking busy in the early stages here. Celtic have certainly missed his industry recently and the Cameroon international has probably been one of Tony Mowbray's most consistent performers in a stuttering season.
1231: Managers Billy Reid and Tony Mowbray have a quick chat and shake hands. We're under way!
1230: The players run out at a sun-kissed New Douglas Park and conditions are perfect...
1228: Here's a wee stat for you to chew over alongside your roll & sausage: Hamilton have not beaten Celtic since season 1988/89 and Accies are still looking for their first win over either side of the Old Firm since their return to the Scottish Premier League in 2008.
1225: Here's hoping for another day of cracking action, following on from the midweek goalfest!
1220: Remember to get your predictions in for today's games using the
BBC Predictor
1217:
From RKW - Heart and Pole On My Sport:
"Any slim hopes that Celtic have left of the title must be boosted with a win today. Anything less, and the title is well and truly going to Ibrox."
|
|
Landry N'Guemo, back from international duty with Cameroon at the Africa Nations Cup, returned to the midfield. Ki Sung-Yueng comes in for Marc Crosas who is joined on the bench by Niall McGinn and Paul Caddis, who are dropped following the 2-1 defeat by Hibernian in midweek.
1212: Brian Easton returns for the hosts at New Douglas Park after sealing a loan move from Burnley. Joel Thomas, who rejoined Billy Reid's side on loan from Colchester on Friday, also starts. Jos Hooiveld is handed his Celtic debut and plays alongside Josh Thompson in central defence.
1210: Teams from New Douglas Park:
Hamilton: Cerny, McClenahan, Canning, Elebert, McLaughlin, Easton, Wilkie, McArthur, Kirkpatrick, Mensing, Joel Thomas,Joel Thomas. Subs: Murdoch, Hastings, van Zanten, Elliott, Flavio Paixao, Marco Paixao, Crawford.
