Einar Bjorndalen wins sixth Olympic Gold

Ole Einar Bjoerndalen won his sixth gold - and 11th Olympic medal overall - by anchoring Norway's men's biathlon relay team to victory in Whistler.

He moved clear on the penultimate shoot for his first gold since 2002, when he took four of them in Salt Lake City.

Austria snatched silver on the line as Christoph Sumann overhauled Russia's Evgeny Ustyugov.

Sumann dropped off Bjoerndalen's pace with a poor shoot but Ustyugov fell on the last leg, allowing Sumann to close.

Norway's Bjorn Daehlie, a cross-country skier, is the only man to have won 12 medals, with eight of them gold.

Norway were already well out ahead, along with Austria, when Bjoerndalen, 36, took over, thanks to the work of the rest of the quartet, Halvard Hanevold, Tarjei Boe and Emil Hegle Svendsen.

Bjoerndalen had endured a difficult Games until this point, with the low point a 27th-place finish in Sunday's mass start, although he took won silver in the 20km individual

"The most important is we won today," he said.

"My shooting was fantastic and I went fast and skied great. I'm really satisfied with my race - it was perfect."

His experienced team-mate Svendsen, who won his third medal of the Games after winning the 20km individual and taking silver in the 10km sprint, admitted he had been nervous before skiing the third leg.

"On the second visit to the range, I couldn't understand how I could hit any targets," he said.

"My body was shaking like a leaf - like a maple leaf. But when I handed over to Ole, I had a good feeling."
