Garry McCoy is to make a comeback in MotoGP aged 37 after signing a two-year deal with the new FB Corse team.
He last competed in MotoGP in 2006 and rode for Triumph in World Supersport in 2009, twice finishing on the podium.
FB Corse told BBC Sport they were planned to run one bike, with second rider Simone Giorgi having a wild card in selected Moto2 races.
The bike has yet to be tested on track but the team hope to have it ready for official testing by March.
Australian McCoy admitted he was surprised at the way events had turned out.

606: DEBATE
|
"It's a bit of a shock. When I was in WSB part of me thought that I would always get another shot in the GP paddock," he told Motorcycle News.
"But I have to admit that I thought it would be in Moto2, not MotoGP.
"I started talking to the team seriously last week after it was confirmed that John (Hopkins) wasn't going to ride for them," he continued.
"I wanted a two-year deal and the team agreed with me. When you're starting with an all-new bike, one year is never enough and I didn't want to be in a position where we got it somewhere close and then I wasn't on it the following season."
McCoy began competing in the world 125cc championship in 1992, moving up to the 500cc category in 1998.
He won the opening race of the 2000 season in South Africa, and went on to win to two other races that season, finishing in fifth place overall.
