England's Stuart Broad has praised stand-in captain Alastair Cook in the build-up to Sunday's first one-day against Bangladesh in Mirpur.

Cook, who is leading England while Andrew Strauss has a break, has led the side to two warm-up wins over the Bangladesh Cricket Board XI this week

"Alastair has taken over with a lot of confidence and slotted into the regime very well," said Broad.

"He's worked well over the past year and is enjoying the responsibility."

Broad added: "The players are enjoying it, we've had some really good preparation, we've got used to the conditions and we're looking forward to Sunday."

The 23-year-old went on to say he was not concerned about security at the tour, despite his father Chris, now an International Cricket Council match referee, being in a convoy of vehicles attacked last year in Pakistan.

"A lot of thought goes into the security side of things from the ECB [England and Wales Cricket Board]... what happened to Dad in Pakistan wouldn't affect my judgement if they said it was safe to go," the younger Broad said.

He also reiterated his decision to forgo the Indian Premier League to focus on his international career, insisting: "I'm only 23 and I need to look after myself at this age to prolong my career."

Resting has been a controversial issue for the England team recently, with skipper Andrew Strauss and key pace bowler James Anderson coming under fire for taking time out to rest ahead of the Ashes later this year.

But their absence has enabled England to shepherd in a new flock of young players, which they will be hoping can prove their mettle against the Tigers.

Craig Kieswetter, who was called up to the one-day squad at the last minute, has also impressed so far by hitting 143 on his full England debut in the first tour match on Tuesday.

His progress at the top of the order has left Joe Denly's place in doubt, while Kieswetter and Matt Prior are both capable of taking the gloves or playing as specialist batsmen.

England must also decide on the make-up of their bowling attack, where they have plenty of options in both seam and spin.

Bangladesh have left former captain Mohammed Ashraful out of the ODI squad after a spell of bad form, with all-rounder Sohrawardy Shuvo set to make his debut.

Pacemen Shahadat Hossain and Nazmul Hossain have also been omitted, but fast bowler Mashrafe Mortaza is available after a long spell out following knee surgery.
